THE SURGEON™ 6109
Which shaft? A quick guide
- KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 Black 125 S (Gabe Standard)Built for wedges. Highest launch and most spin of the range, so the ball stops. 125 g stiff. Right for most golfers and the one Gabe plays.
- KBS Tour 120 S, Chrome or Black (+$20 Black)The classic Tour iron shaft. Mid launch, mid spin, firm tip for control. Choose it to match the KBS Tour shafts in your irons, or to flight it lower in wind.
- KBS Tour 110 R+, Chrome or Black (+$20 Black)Same profile as the 120 S but lighter and a touch softer (R+ sits between regular and stiff). For moderate swing speeds, seniors, or anyone who finds 125 g heavy.
- KBS TGI Graphite 90 or 100 g (+$65)Graphite with the KBS Tour bend profile: same feel, lighter, less vibration. For golfers moving from steel, hand or elbow trouble, or slower speeds. 90 g is smoother, 100 g closer to steel.
- Ladies KBS TGI Graphite 60 (+$65)The lightest option. Helps slower swing speeds get the ball up and keeps the club easy to swing.
- Other shaft (+$25 steel, +$65 graphite)Want something not listed? Pick Other, tell us brand, model, weight and flex, and we will source it and build to it.

THE SURGEON™ 6109. High spin, easy to hit, and bunker shots that come out nice and high.
A forged, CNC-milled 61° lob wedge with 9° of bounce, designed by two-time PGA Tour winner and Tour short-game coach Gabriel Hjertstedt for golfers whose ball won't stop, whose bunker shots come out low, and who've stopped trusting a high-loft wedge. Built to order with your choice of head finish and KBS shaft.
The shots that cost you strokes
You know them. The chip that runs 15 feet past the hole. The bunker shot that skids across the green, or doesn't get out at all. The short-sided pitch with nothing to work with. Most wedges are built for a Tour player's speed. On delicate shots at your speed, they don't spin.
What the 6109 does about it
- Milled micro-grooves, right to the edge of the face. USGA conforming, and they grab the ball on soft, slow shots where other wedges slide. The ball stops. In Gabe's words: "Because I mill them, I can get them right to the edge and still keep them USGA conforming."
- 61° of loft with 9° of bounce. Open it up and the ball goes straight up. Bunker shots come out nice and high and land soft.
- Flattened heel. The sole glides through sand and under the ball instead of digging. Fewer shots left in the bunker.
- Toe relief. Open the face on a tight lie and the leading edge stays down, so the club sits right at address.
- Easy to hit. High loft usually means a small margin for error. Not here. Gabe designed the 6109 for golfers, not just Tour players.
- Forged carbon steel, CNC-milled, 303 g head. A soft, solid feel at impact, and every club weighs the same.
Pull off the impossible. Make birdies. Save pars. Confidence in your hands.
Who it's for
- Golfers whose chips and pitches won't stop on the green
- Golfers who can't get out of the bunker consistently
- Anyone who wants to open a wedge up, hit it high, and trust it
- Chipping into the grain or chunking chips? That's THE SURGEON™ 5612 (56°, 12° bounce).
Inspired by Augusta National
Gabe played the Masters three times (1998–2000), and its tight lies stayed with him. In his words: "I got to play the Masters three times, so when I was building the wedge, I wanted to create something that would work well around all of the tight areas." After nearly four years of self-funded development, the result is the 6109.
Noticed on Tour
In January 2024, Tony Finau heard Gabe hitting the 6109 on the practice area at TPC Scottsdale and asked to try it. "I could hear the ball coming off the face with a lot of spin and then watched it hit and stop on the green from 20 yards," Finau told GOLF.com. "It was really impressive."
Built for when it counts
Elite golfers don't rank their clubs. The driver is important, the wedge is important, the putter is important. Your wedges are scoring clubs, and they have to perform exactly when they're needed. THE SURGEON™ is forged, CNC-milled and built to order for you, to the highest quality possible for a golf club.

How to order
- Choose your head and shaft above.
- For the Gabe Standard build, just add to cart.
- For custom loft, lie, length, grip or a shaft not listed, add your specs in the order note at checkout, or send us a message. We hold the heads and assemble every wedge when your order comes in, so we can build what you want.
Caring for your wedge
Clean the grooves after each round and dry the head. The Raw finish develops a natural patina over time; this is intended and doesn't affect performance.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best wedge for getting out of bunkers?
A high-lofted wedge that slides under the ball. THE SURGEON™ 6109 has 61° of loft and a flattened heel, so bunker shots come out nice and high and land soft. If your bunkers have soft, fluffy sand, the higher-bounce THE SURGEON™ 5612 is the better choice.
How do I get more spin on chips and pitches?
Clean contact and grooves that reach the ball. The 6109's micro-grooves are milled right to the edge of the face, so you keep spin even with the face open and at slower swing speeds.
Who designed the 6109?
Gabriel Hjertstedt, winner of the 1997 B.C. Open and the 1999 Tucson Open, and the first Swedish player to win on the PGA Tour. He designed and self-funds THE SURGEON™ wedges under his own GabeGolf brand.
What loft is the 6109?
61° loft with 9° of bounce as standard. We can build it anywhere from 58° to 64°. Add the loft you want in the order note.
Is the 6109 legal for tournament play?
Yes. The 6109 is USGA conforming.
Can I get it left-handed?
Yes. Choose “Left Handed” as the head option.
Which wedge should I pair it with?
Gabe's advice is to carry both. THE SURGEON™ 5612 (56° loft, 12° bounce) makes a matched 56°/61° scoring pair with the 6109. Buy the pair together and you save $100 automatically at checkout. See THE SURGEON™ Specs.
How long does delivery take?
Free standard US shipping (7–9 days), Express $14.99 (3–4 days), Overnight $29.99. Each wedge is assembled to order, so allow a little extra build time for custom specs.
